Girls emitting EMP ? Whats that ? It’s Code E.
The Series original script and the concept base on a work by Sakaki Ichirou. Twenty years from now, in early summer at Amizawa Village… 18-year-old Ebihara Chinami emits electrical waves when she becomes distressed. Due to this, she cannot use electronics such as PCs and cellphones very well. Her power is so strong that it nearly crashed the plane her family was on by causing instrument malfunctions. Her power leads her to transfer schools frequently. As usual, on the first day of school, Chinami is a little nervous, causing her classmates’ cellphones to glitch and electronics to react to her. The more nervous she becomes, the worse the situation gets, so she begins to take notes on where and how badly the electronics react to her. She eventually meets Kotaro from the science club, who is interested in experimenting on her; Yumi, a classmate and shrine maiden with the same power as she; and Sonomi. They refer to the power as “TYPE-E.” What they don’t know is that a secret organization is after Chinami’s power. There will be a moment when many lives will be saved by Chinami’s power. However, at the same time, someone will be watching her… [taken from AnimeNFO] Its again one of the more unusual type of series, at least i dont remember a series with a main character emitting EMP waves. The viewer here follows the main character Chinami and see her finally getting a hold of her power, or at least control it until a certain point which enables her to make some friends which knows about her ability. Later they mix in some secret agents, thankfully in a way thats not annoying, means they dont take up all the attention and steal away the lead role from Chinami. That is a problem i see in some other animes from time to time, when those “secret groups” comes into play and take away the lead role from our supposed to be main character. Also ok was the amount of romance in this series, which plays a role but is moderate of importance. I’ mean its not one of these typical harem-type series we often got latly, as we have only like 2 parties intrested in the guy. It affects her ability quite a bit but that also makes it intresting (remember, the more nervous or emotionally chaotic she gets, the more she emits the waves^^). All together it makes up a fresh feeling and enjoyable anime, which is maybe a bit short but gets continued these days as Mission-E (i give u a trailer a bit below).

Clean OP
I like the music of the opening, it reminds me on those agent movies like James Bond and stuff.

Memories… i have some memories, memories of "ef – a tale of memories"…
Based on the visual interactive novel by Minori, featuring character designs by Nanao Naru. The story revolves around the protagonist Hirono Hiro, a poor high school boy who draws shoujo manga for his living. One cold Christmas night after meeting a very strange woman in a church, who tells him that he’s going to meet someone he has to meet, his bike gets stolen by another strange girl. He runs after her and finds her collapsed on the street. Her name is Miyamura Miyako and her bag got stolen by a man on a motorbike. Soon after, they start hanging out together, enjoying highschool life. Miyako falls for Hiro pretty quickly but naturally finds a rival in his childhood friend, Shindou Kei, who has been dictating Hiro’s life since ever. [stolen as usual from AniDB] Well first i got a sense it could end up like Shuffle what means for me that it is half or even three-quarter of it comedy and the from out of nowhere begins the drama. But it wasn’t like that. More its like having 3 seperate little dramas that are connected to eachother through different ways. You might think they end up weaved together but that isnt given, they get a bit together but are still not weaved. While watching i felt often like having a déjà vu. For example when Hiro have Kei piggyback i was instantly thinking of Honey & Clover, where Mayama is having Yamada piggyback. *giggle* Also the name of Hiro-sempai made me think and ToHeart popped up as there our protagonist is also called Hiro-sempai, or Hiro-chan (but there coming from Hiroyuki). There is also more to be found in that direction if u know some stuff. I don’t think its intentional but it’s for me to think back on stuff i enjoyed. Through I thought of it as a drama and it feels until the last episode that way it ends somehow still happy what disappointed me a bit as at least one of them could had have a drama end (one of them as one of the stories). The one with Chihiro was perfect to have a dramatic ending, but well… considering the anime as whole i say it’s ok. The end is always something where I’m pretty picky so lets put that aside.

Nagasarete Airantou, the island of the girls *grin*
Based on a manga by Fujishiro Takeshi, serialised in Monthly Shounen Gangan. Ikuto Touhohin just had a fight with his old man, one that led him to make a rash decision to run away from home. He boards a ship, deciding to take a vacation, but the ship is suddenly hit by a huge storm – one that sends Ikuto overboard! When he regains consciousness, he realizes he is still alive… on some island. An isolated island. An isolated island with nothing but girls. Beautiful girls. Stranded on an island with only girls, no electricity, gas, radio, television… like he was back in the stone age. [stolen as always from AniDB] Its a quite funny anime out of the harem/comdey/romance genere. I had at first my probs, since it felt like some overdone harem anime that get unnatural (like Ichigo 100%, it was so… artifical and dumb… *shiver*) but after some episodes this feeling was gone and the fun really begun. Also the setting through it feels old is unusual and i must admit i never had such a scenario for a harem/comedy/romance before. Still i cant get a rid of the feeling i had something like this already… guess i don’t remember that anime anymore. I had the most fun on Suzu and Machi-nee. Suzu for just beeing cute and lovly, and Machi-nee for her evil behavior. She is quite wonderful in her ways of beeing evil^^… poor Ayane (her lil’ sister). But there are more characters that have their own intresting points like for example Chikage and her obession with research everything. The chars also grow slowly, not in a physical way but in a mental way and also as lovers (through they never actually said they loved each other the for the whole series^^). Also funny is the fact that they can communicate with the animals, and many of them have their friends. Like Suzu and the pig Tonkatsu. Tonkatsu is a quite funny one and looks like a ball with a face and 2 ears. But that not all, but for the more u have to figure out for yourself. Also what i digged up was the sweet stuff that Suzu goes nuts for as i was intrested in what this is. Its named Mame Daifuku and consist of a soft, chewy dough surrounding which covers small sphere of sweet red bean paste. I must say i never got the chance to taste it myself so i took the discription from the blog where i also found the recipe how u can make it yourself. You can find the recipe along some pictures in akatsuki talks rot‘s blog entry “mame daifuku”. Also i found later a second guide how to make Mame Daifuku at the “To Short Term Memories” blog, which is a bit more detailed and also includes pictures of the process. It sounds quite yummy and make me understand why Suzu loves it so much through it looks a lil bit weird in reality. So all together we can say that Nagasarete Airantou is a funny and entertaining anime just i have to say that i dont like the final solution for the prob of his lil sister in the end, but i wont say more ’bout this as it would spoil too much. See for yourself, i just say they could have solved it better.

Appleseed Ex Machina, the CG festival
Innovative world view and elaborate set drawn by Shirow Masamune popular manga by the Appleseed, based on the aspirations of Aramaki Shinji, manager of the 2004 “Appleseed” after re-animated feature of the sci-fi action. They keept going in the same manner as the first movie but what i missed was the great music like the first had. Again i was irritated by the CG, it is good done but still it dont feel natural enough for me. I liked in cases of CG the first movie effective better but i guess that comes from the fact that it was somehow “smoother” and not as sharp as the 2nd which probably have covered the unnatural feeling of the CG a bit better. As for the story itself i quite enjoyed it through it got a bit weak on the end, it could have been a bit more thrilling. But overall it was ok and worth watching. The characters grown older and got a gained a better presents from that, especially i was noticing that on Hitomi as she wasnt acting and looking like a child anymore but behaved more mature. Also u saw the maturing technology-wise as Buriareosu got a improved cybernetic body and a somewhat different lookout with that. Also i sense difference in his agility. Well, to sum all up it wasnt perfect but ok. It had some good point but the CG again caused me some problems. Also the music somhow lacked the hightligh’s from the first movie, as there was not great track in my eyes.

Does Anime die in Europe?
It starts with some action by ADV UK division to move their anime release to a so called “yet to be named” local publisher [more here]. Why should they shutdown their label in UK ? Is it so unintresting to sell their licenced stuff in the UK on their own ??? Another worrying fact to your friends in the UK is that many of the sale pages on ADV UK’s site give an error message… Beside shouldnt one first handle the details of the deal with the local publisher before announcing such facts and having the publishing on ice ? Well this behavior could also a have a different background which i will review in detail in a seperate entry since it dont only affect UK anime publishing and distributing. But another fact is that is sad to me and on the other hand worry me is ADV Germany and Tokyopop are shutdown their anime publishing according to Japanator and AnimeOnDVD. Tokyopop says they leave the game cause of the high amount of illegal downloads in Germany even if there is “enormous interest on anime by young media consumers”. AoD points out that Tokyopop Germany had been releasing DVDs at high prices, with 8 discs for a two-season show (24-26 episodes). Another fact i want to add here to this is that here only younger ppl have intrest in anime/manga so the problems lies also in the target group they tried to have buying their stuff. Instead of trying to get older people interested in their products by having some series for more grown up people in their program they instead of series targeting on kids or too “girly” stuff. Beside they didnt do anything to improve the image of anime/manga so people would reconise it as more then just Sex/Gorefest as which most people think about it. So as parent thinking that would you support your kid in having such a hobby ? I guess not. The only anime the normal non-anime fan see’s around here is often some anime targeting at kids in the timeslot around from 1 pm to 5 pm or some really old anime in late night (around 1 am). And when the late night stuff runs u also having advertisment for so called “manga porno” or “anime porn” games for your mobile running alone which greatly improves the way of thinking people have about that theme. But its not only the price or the image anime have here, also its a matter of content. I for example buy rather the US/JP dvds instead of our local since they have bonus stuff like clean op/ed, interviews and more. Sometimes even T-Shirts, soundtrack packaged with it, and similar. But here ? If you’re lucky you maybe get the clean op/ed, and some trailers… Also i miss on newer DVDs the jp dub. I dont like your local dub voices but well thats a matter of taste i think (ok there is some rare stuff but that really rare). Beside they release often no boxsets like u have for example in the US when an anime is out for quite some time. If they would have released for example slim box sets for half the price of the big one they would have sold more then they did. Also to think on bashing the fansubbers for having their overpriced stuff not getting brough is lame. The fansubbers created the customers of them but they forget that. When I think back how small the anime scene was like 6 years ago and how big its now and also the intrest in anime… Rather than bashing the fansubbers they should have releasing faster, a bit cheaper and also better quality/more content. Maybe also some more efforts in direction of high quality digital content distribution they could also have drawn more people to their stores.
Think about it, also its sad… but what should i say ? In my eyes its not the fans fault, its the comanpys.

Pani, Poni and the Dash!
Here it is finally after i watched the last episodes (i NEVER will touch GG, go Oyasumi!). Pani Poni is a gagmanga like Azumanga Daioh (we all know and most probably love this one) or Sensei no Ojikan. It’s the first commercial manga by Hikawa Hekiru who was previously active in the doujin scene. The 11 year old Miyamoto Rebecca becomes the new teacher of a classroom which is full of weirdos. Despite her cute looks she`s a little beast and can be pretty sarcastic and offensive. The school is not safe anymore now that she`s in charge of a class and her students, Himeko, Ichijou, Rei and a white rabbit who took a liking to Rebecca help her to rough up the school and the neighbour-class with its teacher “ojiichan”. Join them now in their daily life full of gags and nonsense. [stolen from AniDB] I had really much fun with this one. Its an intresting mix of characters we got here, they’re more intensive in their ways than Azumanga Daioh. Also we got the always a bit angry but genious kid teacher Becky, she is lovly ^^. Nah, this no loli or typical school one like u get at every corner. They make fun of fucking much stuff, its extreme much. Also its not only limited to anime and manga but to all u can integrate into a manga/anime. Thats also why i was pretty thankful to ADV for include their so called “AD Vidnotes” cause u really need these references to understand some jokes/parodies. Also what made me pretty happy was they also included all the signs and stuff in the background. They not only integrated them but also gave them a styling, a design, not the always used Tahoma or Arial. I can really suggest getting the US DVD if u liked this one, its worth the money what u get! If u maybe know the scanlation u notify the Anime use a slight different character design but i dont consider this bad, cause they took over the way of behave from the characters which is more important. Rei is still the class whitch and Himeko is nuts like before (damn i really love this 2). Give this one a chance and u will get really a lot stuff to laugh about, i always cry tears of laughting when i rewatch it.

ADV fails at pronouncing japanese names…
It’s scary how extreme one can fail… I mean even if I wouldnt speak japanese and see that name… There is no way i would even try to pronounce it in that extreme wrong way. *sigh* anyway see for yourself how much a publisher can fail even at a simple trailer:

Cowboy Bepop. I understand the Cowboy but still riddle about Bepop <(?.?)>
Once upon a time, in New York City in 1941… at this club open to all comers to play, night after night, at a club named “Minston`s Play” House in Harlem, they play jazz sessions competing with each other. Young jazz men with a new sense are gathering. At last they created a new genre itself. They are sick and tired of the conventional fixed style jazz. They`re eager to play jazz more freely as they wish then… in 2071 in the universe… The bounty hunters, who are gathering in the spaceship BEBOP, will play freely without fear of risky things. They must create new dreams and films by breaking traditional styles. The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called… “COWBOY BEBOP” [stolen like always from AniDB] Hell, its quite a good anime. I mean i was seeing this one years back and was saying wtf… leave me alone, but now i got me. I’m not saying its great and perfect and stuff, but its good. Its the kind of Space/Action Anime i like and its rare. Its one of these non-space war but space-action animes like well it reminded me on Dirty Pair, which is also a space-action anime. I mean usually when u search for space action/adventure u get these WOW-WAR anime, where two sides fight against eachother and u find yourself with your hero inbetween these. But thats not it, sure i watch such but i like the different stuff more
. What made me watching it, was the fact i got my hands on the 720p release of the Bepop Movie by THORA. And it made me want more. I just loved the character combination. U got the ex-police man Jet, a quite agressive but more strategic char, then u have Spike, the dude that can get quite hotheaded but still if he wants something he’s like his partner Jet, he dont let it go and catch it. The next that joins the party is Faye, a woman that loves the play and cause of this and other circumstance have her lil’ probs^^, she can be nice but inside she’s a devil. And last but not least we have Ed (Eddo), the hacker girl, she is quite crazy and if u see her u think she’s just a dumb kid but she have her skills. Beside her way of beeing cause a lot of fun. Also they got during the series Ein, a dog thats also special in his own ways. This party gets on bounty hunt and that is definitly quite entertaining. During the series they try to prepare the big end and do well… but in the ed they mess up. it should be some how dramatic but for the real deal in dramatic stuff u need more then 2 episodes. But well the rest of the series make quite up for this fact, maybe i’m not sensetive enought to get the ending in the right way !? who knows… me not  . What i liked at the ending of the series was the saying of that old indian: “Do not fear death. Death is always at your side. When you show fear, it will spring at you faster then light. If you do not show fear, it will only gently look over you…”. Its one of this worldly wisdoms u can find in anime. I like such stuff, that also the cause why i love xxxHolic. Also the music of this anime is extreme stylish and very good done. It matches most the time perfect and gives u that good feeling that i find most the time on older anime series (and with older i mean even older ones as this). Anyway i hope i could gave u some insight and raise your intrest for it. Here like usual u get the trailers, this time english dubbed, didnt found japanese dub/eng sub ones. First is for the series, 2nd is for the movie (and i like the dub for the movie trailer, the voices are matching… rare but with these i’m ok).
Enjoy…
